BackpackersThere are endless backpackers and hostels in Australia, especially in the tourist areas like New South Wales and Queensland. Actually, there are accommodations of this kind everywhere. Only in the outback you might get a problem to find a hostel. But at least you will get a space on a camping place. Hope you have a tent though some camping places offer bungalows and camping trailers. If you travel many places you will stay in some terrible hostels, which are not that clean or even have bugs. Some people can tell stories about a red itchy skin the next morning. They figured out that little insects "live" in the bed and come out at night to eat your skin. Or there are working hostels where guests drink at night, wake up early in the morning, start up the engines of the buses and freak you out of your bed. This might be the right place to get a job, but not for relaxing. But you will also find very nice hostels, with a friendly staff and nice guests. You cannot prepare every single stay for the next 12 months, but its good to know which places you don't like to go. Here is a list of backpackers, please rate and tell your opinion: Add new comment
AboriginesThe Aboriginal people of Australia are the minority in their own land. They are considered to be the poorest people on this continent. Until today many of them do not find a way to live among the white people with a real job and all that. Many of them live a sad life, without any perspective and addiction to alcohol. Today, the majority of the indigenous Australians live in their own communities. For some places, white visitors must have a permit. Also transporting alcohol can be illegal if it's a "dry" community. Largest aboriginal communities are in Central Australia, around Alice Springs and Ayers Rock. White people believe, that Aboriginals are desert people. That's not all true.Maybe the largest communities lay in the outback, but only because white settlers banished them from the green coasts of Australia. However, the government and the people feel sorry for what they did to them. Giving back land is one way of compensation. Some Aborigines do have jobs! They work as rangers in national parks, guiding tourists and tell the white people about their history and traditional way of living. Aboriginals are nature people. They really understand the entire environment of this land. They know about the plants, the animals and weather and how to live with them. That's why they are favorite helpers in animal parks or other Australian environment projects. Playing music is another opportunity for Aborigines to make a living with sense. Please note: If you see an aboriginal street musician, or an aboriginal in general, please do not just make a photo of him without asking. They might get upset and damage your camera!
